Shabana said, "This latest shooting is tragic news and my thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family. Along with other community activists I have been saying for some time that we need to ensure the strongest possible action is being taken to work out why we are seeing this escalation in violent crime so that the upsurge can quickly be brought to a halt.
The launch yesterday of the Commission on Gangs and Violence by the Police and Crime Commissioner is welcome but it needs to work quickly and effectively. Knives and guns stop young lives in their tracks. The West Midlands Police have a track record of getting on top of this kind of crime. We need them to get on top of this now before more lives are pointlessly lost in this way."
