Speaking after two schools in Ladywood were reported to be affected by the RAAC scandal, Shabana Mahmood said:

“The scandal of schools closing due to the dangers posed by crumbling concrete is the endgame of 13 years of sticking plaster politics by the Conservatives.

“It’s devastating that students at Aston Manor who were looking forward to going back to school this week will have their return delayed – and the blame lies squarely with this government.

“I visited Aston Manor Academy earlier this year and saw first-hand the incredible work of teachers to provide an outstanding education for pupils.

“That work is being hindered by an Education Secretary who refuses to accept any responsibility for the scandal, and a government that has systemically slashed spending on school safety since 2010.”
