Birmingham is set to receive a £650 million boost to its finances – thanks to a Labour government.
The money is part of the first multi-year funding Settlement in over a decade, giving councils three years of financial certainty so they can plan ahead rather than firefight year to year.
Birmingham will see a 45% increase in its settlement, the equivalent of £650 million over the next 3 years, after the link to funding and deprivation was restored.
Speaking after the announcement, Shabana Mahmood MP said:
Fourteen years of Tory austerity starved Birmingham of proper funding, decimating public services in our city.
I was elected on a promise to put Birmingham’s voice at the heart of a Labour government.
Today’s announcement of a £650 million boost for our city is a promise delivered by this Labour Government.
Today is a good day for Birmingham. And I will never stop fighting for our city and my home.
