Shabana has welcomed £20million Pride in Place funding for Nechells at a roundtable of community stakeholders.

The government is investing £20 million in Nechells after campaigning by Shabana Mahmood and Councillor Lee Marsham.

The funding is part of a nationwide Pride in Place programme to support overlooked communities.

The money can be spent on high streets, parks and public spaces – with resident-led decision making on where it is spent.

At the roundtable, Shabana heard from residents about their views on how the funding should be spent, alongside representatives from Nechells Pod and Free@Last.

Speaking at the roundtable, Shabana said:

One of the things that happens when you win a general election and you’re suddenly in the Cabinet of this country is you realise where decisions get made.

And the system that you inherit has been used to making decisions a particular way, and then you’re along as a new party to do things differently.

I take my seat at the Cabinet table and I never ever forget that I’m there to deliver for the people that put me there and for the great city that is my home.
