Shabana Mahmood has welcomed a share of the Labour government’s £127.8 million investment in cultural venues, with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Birmingham Royal Ballet set to benefit.

The funding forms part of the government’s Arts Everywhere Fund – a £1.5 billion package to support cultural infrastructure across the country and ensure communities can continue to access arts, heritage and cultural spaces locally.

Birmingham Repertory Theatre will receive £3,047,229 and Birmingham Royal Ballet will receive £949,953 helping to secure their future and improve access for local people.

Across the country, 130 cultural venues, museums and libraries are receiving support through this latest round of funding, helping to protect valued community spaces and ensure they remain open and accessible for future generations.

Speaking after the announcement, Shabana said:

Birmingham is the home to world-renowned arts and culture organisations that celebrate our creative heritage and pioneer the future.

This funding will help secure the future of The Rep and the Birmingham Royal Ballet, improving access and ensuring it continues to serve people in our city for years to come.

After years of underinvestment under the previous government, Labour is backing Birmingham, and recognising the vital role the creative arts plays in our city.
