Shabana has written to the Midlands Rail Hub Alliance regarding their plans for rail network enhancements in Digbeth.
Midlands Rail Hub Alliance recently opened a consultation for major works on the line from Moor Street to Bordesley, adding new platforms, widening the existing line, and adding two new chords to improve services.
The proposed changes are a major investment in the region’s rail network that will bring economic benefits for the city.
However, the proposals include the use of compulsory purchase powers along the route.
In her letter supporting the asks of local organisations, Shabana says:
Digbeth is an incredible engine for growth and creativity, not just for Birmingham but for the entire region. Every year, more businesses and organisations are making this neighbourhood their home, creating jobs and attracting private investment.
There is only one opportunity to get this right, and deliver a project that unlocks Digbeth’s potential for generations, powering sustainable growth in partnership with this neighbourhood.
